Phase 1 of the Vernonia Elementary School playground has been installed and is beautiful. Now we are looking for help in raising funds for phase 2. PTA is currently looking for a person willing to co-chair the fundraising position on the board. If you are interested in helping with our efforts, please contact Melissa Zavales or Susan Ely.
Saturday, September 20th at Vernonia Lake from 10:00 AM-1:00 PM we will be holding a Bike-a-thon fundraiser for phase 2 of the playground. This will be a fun and fit activity for all students. Students set realistic lap goals based on age and development. Drinks will be provided and awards will be given for exceptional participation. Pledge sheets need to be turned in the day of the bike-a-thon. If you haven’t received one you can get one from the PTA bulletin board in the school, Sentry Market, and at The Black Iron Grill. So come ready for fun! We look forward to seeing you! Don’t forget your bikes and helmets! Read More
Playground Committee Making Progress-The Vernonia Playground Committee is a new group that has formed out of need by community members and parents who have the desire to work toward getting playground equipment at our new school. The money for the new school playground was cut from the budget due to rising costs. It has been over a year since we have moved in to the new building and still with no equipment for the kids to use at recess. After all, what is recess without a playground?
There is good news. The Vernonia Community PTA along with the Vernonia Education Foundation, Jacob Levenseller Fund raised enough money to purchase two bays of six swings for the playground that will be going in behind the school. The swings have been ordered and delivered and have just been awaiting the excavation of the land and volunteer support to install them. Hopefully by the time you are reading this they will be up and used by the kids! A big thank you to new resident, and parent of young children, Casey Hunter, for stepping in to help! Read More
The new commercial grade microwave is in place. It was purchased by Vernonia Community PTA with funds raised at last year’s carnival (separate from money raised for playground equipment) This was decided upon as a needed item by the VHS Leadership Class and will be a welcome addition to keep the lines shorter at lunchtime.
Packets have been sent home with elementary students for our “Jazzercise for a Jungle Gym” fundraiser. Students will gather pledges from friends and family in exchange for 45 minutes of hard exercise led by Jazzercise guru Penny Costley. This packet will be handed in on Friday the 20th with money. The Jazzercise will happen in two time slots: 3rd-5th grade 8-8:45 AM and K-2nd 10:15-11 AM. We are looking for volunteers to help with handing out a small snack and prize to participants on this day. Read More
