Glenn “Shorty” Franklin Hawkins of Redmond, OR, entered the gates of heaven at 2:55 PM on Monday, July 14, 2014. He was 71.

A Memorial Service was held Saturday, July 26, 2014 at 1:00 PM at Eagle Crest Conference Center, located at 1522 Cline Falls Road in Redmond, OR.

Glenn was born February 2, 1943 in St. Helens, OR, to Glen and Marie (Serafin) Hawkins. He was raised in Vernonia, OR, and graduated from Vernonia High School in 1961. On February 3, 1973, Glenn married his sweetheart, Leslie Robbins.

From 1961 to 1986, Glenn worked as a heavy machinery mechanic at Crown Zellerbach in Tillamook, OR. Also, during this time, Glenn worked as a reserve officer with the Tillamook County Sheriff’s Department. After Crown Zellerbach closed its doors in 1986, Glenn began logging Douglas fir pole and saw timber on his family’s tree farm in Vernonia. In April 1992, Glenn and his brother Bill took over DMI, a specialized machine shop for the electronics industry. He worked there until he retired in 2006.

After retiring, Glenn and Leslie built the home of their dreams on 10 acres in Redmond, Oregon. Here, Glenn was able to enjoy puttering around their property and building countless works of wooden art in his wood shop.

Glenn had a passion for his woodworking and had become quite accomplished with his craft. He also enjoyed camping, fishing and target shooting. He was a gunsmith and a lifetime member of the NRA.

Glenn is survived by his adoring wife of 41 years, Leslie Eldean Hawkins of Redmond, OR; daughter Renée (husband J.D.) Scott of Hillsboro, OR; daughter Ginger (husband Michael) Jolly of Aloha, OR. Other survivors include two brothers, Byron (wife Evelyn) Hawkins of Pine Mountain, GA; and William (wife Mary) Hawkins of Hillsboro, OR; and six grandchildren whom Glenn was the most proud of, Drew Scott, Dominic and Raquel Jolly, and Greg, Jeremy and Katelyn Cronk.

Glenn is preceded in death by both parents, his daughter Shaun Hawkins, and a grandson, Jonathan Scott.
