Girls Basketball-The Vernonia Lady Loggers are off to a great start this season and are currently undefeated with a 6-0 record.
Coach Steve Whiteman has a deep and talented team that has been easily handling any opponent they have faced so far. The Lady Loggers have racked up a series of impressive victories so far including preseason wins: 74-27 over 3A Clatskanie, 68-13 over Life Christian in the Vernonia Tournament, 54-45 over 3A Catlin Gabel to win the Vernonia Tournament and 61-25 over 3A Westside Christian. The Lady Loggers also opened Northwest League play with a 57-9 drubbing of Nestucca and a 83-52 victory over Riverdale on Tuesday December 17.
The Lady Loggers have upcoming home league games on December 20 against Kanppa, and January 7 against Portland Christian.
Boys Basketball-The Logger boys have struggled a bit to start the season and hope to find their rhythm as they get into Northwest League play. So far the Loggers, under third year coach David Weller have a 3-3 overall record and a 61-50 league loss to Nestucca and a 70-62 win over Riverdale.
For the Loggers, point guard Alex Rubiero has been leading the way, including a 41 point, 8 steal, 7 rebound performance against Westside Christian in a 77-74 overtime loss for the Loggers.
The Loggers continue league play at home against Knappa on December 20, travel to play in the Gervais Tournament over the holiday break and play at home against Portland Christian on January 7.
Wrestling-Bad weather cancelled the first two tournaments of the season for the Loggers. They finally got on the mat competitively on December 14 at the Warrenton Tournament where Justin Fletcher and Jason Bouslaugh each took 3rd place and Andrew Jennings took 4th.
The Loggers were scheduled to host Warrenton and Clatskanie in a home dual meet on Wednesday December 18, travel to the Haggerty Invitational on December 21, the Clatskanie Tournament on December 28 and the Bob Bishop Invitatinal on January 4.
