“Give Back Bash” Planned for Jamboree

Elvis Impersonator Justin Shandor to Star in Two Shows

GiveBackBash-Logo-webAsk some old timers if they remember when the VHS beer-drinking fight song was given new words to represent spirit and pride.  Ask them if they remember the incident where a glass bottle was thrown through the front window of a VHS school bus returning from a basketball game in Corbett, sending many students to the hospital.  Ask them if they remember the when girls were allowed to wear pants to school for the first time.  If they can recall that time, they may remember some of the alumni of the Vernonia High School class of 1973.

Since that time, members of class of ‘73 have become bankers, business owners, teachers and even a doctor.  When looking forward to planning a 40th reunion, committee members decided it was time to give back.  That means you’ll be hearing about a “Give Back Bash” fundraiser to be held in conjunction with the Vernonia Friendship Jamboree.   “We needed to do something besides gather as a class for our 40th reunion.  The hallways of the schools that we walked are gone. Nothing but a memory.  We have a wonderful opportunity to give back to the community” states brain-child of the event, Kathi (Medges) Knowles, who currently resides in Beaverton but still owns the Medges property on Noakes Road with her siblings.

Direct from Las Vegas, entertainment will be provided by Elvis Presley Enterprises Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist 2010, Justin Shandor.  Jamie’s Rock and Roll Legends, Justin’s local agent, provides the fabulous back-up band.   “We are so lucky that we booked Justin before his appearance on David Letterman” explains Kathi, “his popularity has exploded.  You won’t believe your eyes or ears and you won’t want to miss this event”.GiveBackBash-Justin-web

The Give Back Bash will be held at the Vernonia Schools Commons area on Saturday, August 3rd with a 50’s & 60’s show at 2:00 p.m. and a 70’s show at 6:00 p.m.   There will be donated items raffled during each show.  Asking us to remember that this is a fundraiser with a show and not a show with a fundraiser, ticket prices are from $15-$100.  You may reserve your tickets through BrownPaperTickets.com/event/294028 or call their office at 1-800-838-3006.  If you have any questions, or would like to donate item(s) to the raffle, you may email Kathi at  ”GiveBackBash@hotmail.com.  All proceeds will benefit the Vernonia Education Foundation.

This quilt, handmade by Carol Hiland of Ojai, CA, titled “Stars Over Vernonia” is one of the items to be raffled at the Give Back Bash.
