A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, March 15, 2013 at 10:30 AM at the Visitation Catholic Church, 4189 NW Visitation Road in Verboort, will Father Michael Vuky, celebrant. Recitation of the Holy Rosary will precede the Mass at 10:00 AM Burial Rites and Interment will follow at the Mt. Olive Cemetery.
Family and friends are invited to attend a reception immediately following the Mass to be held in the Parish Hall of the church.
NORBERT H. PELSTER, 100, a longtime former resident of Vernonia, lately of Beaverton, died March 8, 2013 at Maryville Nursing Home.
Norbert was born on April 9, 1912 in Raeville, Nebraska to Albert Conrad and Louise Catherine (Hoesing) Pelster. He attended Boone County Schools in Nebraska and later completed a Diesel Mechanics course. He worked on farms from Nebraska to Oregon in the 1930’s.
He was united in marriage to Mary “Louise” Unger on October 7, 1940 at St. Mathew’s Catholic Church in Hillsboro, then made their home in Vernonia. They raised nine children and also parented James, David and Mike Armstrong for ten years.
Norbert was employed by Oregon American Lumber Mill in Vernonia as a tractor operator and watchman until it closed in 1957. Norbert’s hobby was tinkering with cars, trucks and tractors. He and Louise enjoyed pattern dance classes and dances at the senior centers. He religiously watched Lawrence Welk “champagne music” weekly. He was a long-standing member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Vernonia.
Norbert and Louise’s children are Raymond of Vernonia, Leo (Janice) of Cornelius, Theresa Carter (Ken) of Cornelius, Dolores Ashenberner (Sam) of Beaverton, Sr. Josephine SSMO of Beaverton, Catherine Maney (Pat) of The Dalles, Cecilia De Clerck (Greg) of Powell Butte, Agnes Abel of Gaston and the late Emil (Carol) of Vernonia. Norbert has two living sisters, Blanche Richmond of Kyle, Texas and Bernice Henninger of Sun City West, Arizona.
Norbert was preceded in death by his wife Louise on September 14, 2002 after celebrating almost 62 years of marriage; his son, Emil; his brothers, Art and Edwin; his sisters, Martha Euse and Alma Kiesling; and his grandson, Joseph Pelster.
He has 37 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grand-child and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
