The Vernonia Loggers fell in the quarterfinals at the OSAA 2A State Championships in Pendleton on Wednesday night. The Loggers lost 61-46 to the Oakland Oakers. The Loggers continue play in the consolation round on Thursday, where they face Oakridge at 10:45 AM.
The Loggers were led by Northwest League Player of the Year Austin Cutright, who scored 18 points and 13 rebounds. Jared Leone added 15 points and 8 rebounds and Jesse Edgar scored 10 points and had 12 rebounds. The Loggers out rebounded Oakland 45-40 but had 24 turnovers. The Loggers struggled throughout the evening, shooting 27% from the field, 25% from beyond the 3 point line and converting only 46% of their free throws.
The Loggers face the Oakridge Warriors in the elimination round today. Oakridge finished their regular season in second place in the Mountain View League with 10-2 league record and a 19-8 overall record. Oakridge defeated Gaston 34-33 in the first round of the state playoffs to earn their trip to Pendleton. They lost to Pilot Rock 55-40 in the quarterfinals at Pendleton.
